Learn How To See Value

One of my 4 pillars of good painting is Value. Value being the darkness or lightness of a shape compared to the things around it.

The only way to know the true value of something is by direct observation with your eye.

That is why painting plain air is so essential for representational art.

Painting small black and white studies like these are the best way to learn to see value correctly.

Join me at the Plein Air Utah Event, September 13-15 in the beautiful Heber Valley, and I will help you paint some of the small value studies to help you see values as they really are.
